Now that winter is in the rearview mirror (officially anyway), hikers all over the country are dusting off their boots and preparing for summer hikes ahead.
Kick off the season on June 6th with American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day. Now in it’s 23rd year running, National Trails Day is the biggest celebration of trails in the entire country—celebrating the physical, mental and spiritual benefits that only time on the trail can bring. Events include hikes, bike rides, trail maintenance, trail dedications, and more.
American Hiking Society is committed to protecting our natural places, maintaining trails and ensuring they’ll be there for generations to come. Supporting this mission, Therm-a-Rest is proud to be a sponsor of National Trails Day 2015.
On this day last year, over 8,000 cyclists and equestrians rode a total of 45,000 miles. Close to 7,000 paddlers covered over 20,000 miles. And nearly 80,000 hikers across the U.S. trekked the equivalent of 11 laps around the globe (over 284,000 miles)!
What can you do at this year’s big event?
Scale a peak with your partner, hike the lake loop with the kids, ride the canyon with the girls (or guys), build a bridge with your best bud, canoe the river with co-workers, rehash park history with a ranger, or rehab a favorite trail with new friends that share your love for these local gems.
With over 2,000 National Trail Day activities, it’s easy to join planned hikes, rides and more. Follow this link to find an event near you.
