Weight
Pad weight is most important for backpackers and ultralight hikers. When carrying your sleep system long distances, a few ounces makes a big impact on your trip. Pad weight is determined by a combination of factors, including materials, size, and thickness.
Warmth
The warmth of a sleeping pad is determined by its R-Value. A higher R-Value is recommended for cold conditions as it requires less energy to maintain the proper temperature. A lower R-Value is appropriate for warmer conditions.
Thickness
Thinner pads offer lightweight comfort and space-savings while thicker pads offer increased luxury but sacrifice the amount of space that it will take up in your pack.
