Click here to download the Universal Therm-a-Rest Mattress Repair Instructions, including how to locate leaks and make repairs in the field or at home on any mattress model.

If you have further questions about repair or warranty, or would like to send your mattress to us for repair. In the U.S., please contact our Customer Service department at 1-800-531-9531. For worldwide service and repair contact information, please click here.

Should you find yourself without access to Therm-a-Rest Repair Kits, repairs can also be made using items commonly found at most outdoor gear shops. (Remember that for maximum effectiveness, ALL of the below repairs should begin with a clean and dry mattress. An alcohol swab is an ideal cleaner that dries fast.)

  • Small leaks not requiring a patch: A urethane-based glue should be used. Some popular brands are SeamGrip® and AquaSeal. Apply a small dab, large enough to completely seal the hole, and allow 24 hours for drying. If your mattress fabric is relatively smooth like the NeoAir or Trail mattresses, peel-and-stick bicycle tube patch kits are an option offering instant repair.
  • Larger holes and tears: All mattresses can be repaired with a self-adhesive fabric patch—like those used to repair jackets and tents. These are commonly found in outdoor gear shops. Cut the patch in a circle to generously cover the hole. Apply a small amount of urethane-based glue to the back of the patch and the area to be covered on the mattress. Apply patch and press firmly. Wipe away excess glue from edges and allow 24 hours to dry.

If you’re not comfortable making the repair yourself and have some time before your next trip, call our service department at 1-800-531-9531 for instructions on sending your mattress back for repair.

Yes. A Therm-a-Rest Valve Replacement Kit will replace all metal and plastic mattress valves. Instructions for the kit can be found here.

Roll the mattress up to force the water out of the open valve. If there is a lot of water, you may have to do this several times. Hang the mattress upside down with the valve open in a warm, dry place. It will take about three days for the mattress to dry out.

Regular cleaning will extend the life of your mattress, especially if you sleep in direct contact with its surface.

Do not put your mattress in the washing machine. Cleaning with a hose or in a bathtub is best. Do not forget to close the valve while washing. For general cleaning, a quick scrubbing with Formula 409®, BioClean All-Purpose Cleaner, or other general household cleaner is best.

For tree sap, spot clean with a cotton rag soaked in rubbing alcohol. This will take some work and sap will likely leave a stain. However, a dusting with talc or baby powder when you are done should eliminate any residual stickiness.

Cozy, Warm Comfortable Backcountry sleep
If there is one thing I will not compromise on; it's gear that will give me a good nights rest. After expending an exuberant number of calories and lugging a monster pack up a mountain, I look forward to a warm comfortable sleep. I purchased the women's Prolite Plus (an earlier make of it) back in 2011. This was my first real backpacking mattress. Compared to what I was trying to sleep on prior, this changed everything for me. Until this point I thought it was impossible to get a good sleep when camping. Warm, soft, cozy, it's easy to drift off on this mattress. In addition to providing a comfortable sleep, the ProLite Plus is light and rolls up to a small size. I fit mine right inside my backpack. It's also completely durable, it took me 5 years of regular use before I managed to puncture it. I definately recommend this product to anyone looking for a good sleep while Backpacking. I've spent many nights on this mattress, places including the West Coast Trail, Nootka Island, Juan de Fuca trail, Skaftefall Park Iceland, Garibaldi Park, Strathcona Park, to name a few. I only recently switched to the NeoAir XTherm, because these days I do more trekking on snow then solid ground. I did find I was getting chilly at night while trying to sleep on snow using the Prolite Plus, perhaps pushing this piece of gear to its limits. If snow is more your thing I would really recommend going for the NeoAir XTherm.

Great for Years!
This is the first camping pad I bought as an adult and I've been car camping with it since 2013. It's still going strong and has never leaked or had a hole. I've always woken up well rested with it.

This thing has revolutionised camping
When people reveal that they don't like camping, I'm always intrigued to ask why. Invariably, I'm told that their lack of canvas-love primarily comes down to the cold, wet weather or an uncomfortable night's sleep. Admittedly, torrential downpours wouldn't necessarily be my preferred choice when sleeping outdoors, but achieve around eight undisturbed, cozy hours in your 'Dome Sweet Dome' and you can pretty much face anything the next day. Although you can hardly blame folks when they grimace at the thought of those paper-thin, yoga-style roll mats, which might be ideal for assuming the downward-facing dog position, but are simply unable to adequately insulate the body, let alone accommodate it with any lasting comfort throughout the dark wee hours. Forget the morning dynamic stretching, waking up chilled and to a spine that's in bits the following morning is unappealing to the back and beyond. Thanks to Therm-a-Rest's 40 years of innovation in outdoor comfort, their Research and Development team has evolved a sleeping mattress that will conveniently take care of your needs while slumbering soundly the whole night through. Identical in its redesign, weight, pack-size, material, thickness and width as the ProLite Plus—bar the colour—the women's ProLite Plus mattress outwardly looks the same as the regular ProLite Plus equivalent. The only variables, other than the cayenne exterior, comprise a standard length of 5-foot 5-inches and its supreme insulation against the slow transfer of heat—measured in R-values. Due to a special pattern incorporated in Therm-a-Rest's selective density diagonal-cut foam, the women's ProLite Plus pad comes in at a whopping 4.2 R-value, which compared to the ProLite Plus at 3.4, really does make the mattress the hot choice for anyone with a tendency to feel the cold when temperatures drop. Designed with the aid of extensive thermal imaging data from sleeping men and women, the die-cut pattern employed is very specific to achieve maximum weight savings, comfort and warmth. In the women's mattresses, fewer die-cuts are made in areas where more warmth is needed—the hips, feet and torso areas of the mattress. Anatomically, the added hip foam provides added support for side sleepers, a thoughtful detail and made from Atmos foam, reduces overall weight by nearly 10 per cent. Namely, the best just got better for women. As a woman, have I noticed any notable differences between the ProLite Plus and the women's equivalent? Actually, yes. As someone that is 5-foot, 5-inches, the women's ProLite Plus is akin to Cinderella's slipper; it fits me perfectly. And because its length is shorter, conveniently takes up less room in the tent. Describing myself as "nesh"—namely I'm the first one to feel the chill—the mattress does feel a little warmer, further increasing my comfort levels during cold night camping. More so when I'm able to ditch the canvas for sleeping on the ground directly beneath the stars. Aside from the fact that it's an exceptionally light, four-season self-inflating pad, it's perfect for any cold sleeper that fits on the mattress, regardless of gender, looking for a boost in their overnight warmth. Conclusion Complete with a limited lifetime warranty, Therm-a-Rest mattresses are guaranteed for the life of the product against defects in materials and workmanship, where automatic repair or replacement will take place. Ultra compressible, whether you're an ounce-counting mountaineer, a luggage-conscious wanderer or an indulgent, road-tripping fun hog, the ProLites are body-warming no brainers. And for me, the women's version has the finishing touch on true outdoor comfort.
