Joining the Therm-a-Rest® family for 2017 is the Uno™ Chair. This little guy is more than meets the eye and is equally at home in the backcountry or at a backyard barbeque. We had the opportunity to sit down with the Uno Chair for an exclusive interview.
Therm-a-Rest: Welcome Uno Chair. Thanks for taking time to sit down with us today, although, I guess you’re always sitting, aren’t you?
Uno Chair: Happy to be here, but I am really only sitting part of the time. I convert easily into a side table, so I find myself “table-ing” fairly often. I even pack into a convenient disc-shape when I am not in use.
T: You could say it’s almost unfair to call you “just a chair”.
U: Deep down, I am a chair. I love nothing more than kicking back and enjoying a scenic view or hanging around a campfire. My siblings, the Quadra™ Chair and Treo™ Chair, are all about sitting. I love sitting too, but sometimes you gotta shake things up. I’m ready if you need a table for that sunrise coffee or post-hike beer.
T: Sounds like you are a jack-of-all-trades. I heard that you really enjoy music festivals?
U: Well it’s hard to beat listening to good tunes while keeping your buddies comfortable. I’m a breeze to travel with; my disc-shape slips easily into a pack or shoulder bag. If carrying a bag isn’t your style, then I come with an integrated carry handle. I’m also a little shorter than my siblings, so I am just the right height to meet festival regulations.
T: How do you like to spend your down time?
U: Well after a long weekend of getting used at a festival or campsite, I enjoy a good sporting event or backyard barbeque. I like to keep a pretty busy lifestyle.
T: What is your best feature?
U: Even with all my versatility, I stay pretty lightweight. I am lighter than both the Quadra Chair and Treo Chair. The last thing I want to do is weigh you down.
T: Rumor has it, you come in four different colors. Is there any truth to this?
U: The rumors are true. I am a bit of a fashionista. Just because I am super versatile and crazy comfortable doesn’t mean I can’t look good. I like to think I’m the total package.
T: Do you have any goals for the future?
U: My goal is to be one of the first pieces of gear that people pull out of their closet for a comfortable time outside. Right now I am just working on putting myself out there and trying to find my way into people’s cars, packs, and gear closets.
T: We are all rooting for you. When will you be available?
U: Well, technically, I’m a part of the 2017 Therm-a-Rest line. I had a long talk with the crew and we decided that was too long to wait. People NEED the comfort and versatility I offer. I am happy to announce that I will be released later this year, just in time for the holiday season.
T: That’s great news! Any comments on the rest of the 2017 Therm-a-Rest line?
U: I am really proud to be a part of this group. We have a lot of great new products and I could go on and on about each and every one of them. However, at the end of the day, we are all just working together to help you have a better time outside. All of us help create a complete camp ecosystem. If you rest better, then you play better.
T: Wise words. Any final thoughts before you go?
U: I just want to thank Therm-a-rest for believing in me. It wasn’t too long ago that I was just a concept sketch. It was really fun to work with this team and they have supported me in every step of this process. I am just excited to start making some good memories outside. See you out there!
